Getting to know a little about Shirley

Shirley Robinson, of Canastota, New York, is a fifth generation quilter with the love of color and fabric in her blood. As a child she slept under quilts made by her grandmother and learned to embroider and sew with patient teaching from her mother. .

As a quilter, she gravitated to teaching to inspire others to experience the creative joy of quilting. Her goal as a teacher is to provide the necessary skills and confidence for enabling each student to work independently. Her patient, hands on teaching techniques are spiced with humor to put students at ease and create an enjoyable atmosphere for learning and producing.

Having taught quilting and other fabric crafts for over 15 years, she continually updates her knowledge of the craft by attending workshops with nationally known teachers including Ellie Sienkewicz, Judy Mathieson, Liz Porter, Barbara Brackman, Anita Shackleford, Jeana Kimball, Dixie McBride and Cynthia England, and has had quilts juried into regional and national shows. She recently began doing business as a professional quilt appraiser.

A graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Shirley lives in the country in the ultimate antique, a house built before the Civil War. There she enjoys quilting, gardening and home projects and eagerly awaits visits from her grandchildren.
